| In a Nutshell |

| I
am responsible for the provision, development and maintenance of all
applications software on both PC and Mainframe platforms. These responsibilities
include evaluating user requirement, planning and scheduling workload, systems
analysis, programming, technical support, dealing with user queries and user
training. Most of my work involves the complete project lifecycle. Although I
have a managerial position, I still have "hands-on" access to projects
at all levels.

| Official Description |

| The
SDM is responsible to the I.S. Manager for the management and control of
development projects. Responsible for the provision of both business and
technical support and the guidance and assistance of users. Project leaders
report to him. Acts as Chief Systems Analyst/Programmer and as such is
responsible for the standard and performance of all application system software.

| Management Responsibilties |
 |
- Liaising with internal
management and advising on all matters relating to computer system development
and support
- Liaising with external
suppliers and representing Information Systems on all matters relating to
application snd system development software
- Ensuring an adequate
level of development support, advising training, recruitment and software
requirements as necessary

| Functional Responsibilities |
 |
- Obtaining user management
approval of computer system development requirement ensuring that all
development activity is authorised against formal statement of objectives and
cost/benefit justification
- Establishing and
monitoring development schedules to ensure commitments are achieved within
agreed timescales and cost
- Providing maintenance
support of operational systems ensuring maximum availability of processing
facilties to user departments
- Controlling and
prioritising requests for modifications of operational computer systems and
'one-off' reports
- Providing regular status
report of development progress to Information Systems Management
- Establishing and
maintaining departmental standards in conjunction with other Information Systems
managers and ensuring that all systems development is performed in accordance
with these standards
- To carry out any other
task within my ability as requested by a supervisor
