Background

SalePoint is my first attempt at producing a commercial quality product using Visual Basic and Access 95. The development is on-going but has taken 6 months part-time work so far. As far as the programming is concerned, I have been on an advanced Access developers course in London which concentrated on developing systems using the Access point-and-click interface. I soon decided that it would simply not be powerful enough to produce the product that I wanted, so I started dabbling with Visual Basic. Once I got into VB, I was hooked, the sheer power that becomes available is phenominal and I decided that from that point onwards, all my Access projects would consist solely of VB code - it certainly shows in the end results.

What Is SalePoint?

SalePoint is an electronic point of sale system (EPOS) - effectively a checkout program similar to those used in most shops. It is written in Visual Basic and runs under Access 95 for Windows 95. It will not run correctly on the Mac as Access does not support the Visual Basic 'Sendkeys' statement on that platform.

SalePoint is designed to be used from the keyboard and hand-held scanner. These scanners can be purchased for a few hundred pounds and plug between the keyboard and the PC. They effectively read barcodes and mimic the key presses on the keyboard followed by return. Check out the screenshots and list of features below and then download the shareware version to see it work for yourself.

Download Area

Click below to download a zipped version of SalePoint 1.1 Shareware. The shareware version will function indefinitely but a lot of features present in the commercial product are missing. Once you have downloaded the file to your hard drive, you need to UNZIP it before loading the MDB file into Access.
